Frequently asked questions

  • Once I’ve discussed your child’s needs with you and met with your child, I will make some recommendations.

  • Following initial assessments, I can guide you on where we should begin and the best place to start with providing the right support.

  • If your child struggles with learning in English, it’s likely they won’t be keen on additional tuition (especially as they get older!) I will do my best to turn this situation around for your child and make each session fun, engaging and positive.

  • We understand that life doesn’t always go to plan and there may be an occasion when you need to cancel your child’s session, all I ask is that you give me as much notice as possible and I will try my best to reschedule your booking.

  • The Teaching Patch will do their very best to work with you to meet all children’s needs, establishing a suitable supportive plan following the taster session. Children with SEND can often thrive in a 1:1 learning environment.

  • The Teaching Patch will give you advice and pointers on how to continue to support your child at home. We can also arrange for small tasks to be completed between tutoring sessions if appropriate.

  • The tutoring sessions are carried out in the tutor’s home, in an outdoor classroom. Parents are welcome to stay to settle younger children in if necessary. There may be occasions when a visit to the child’s home can be arranged.

  • The Teaching Patch provides face to face tuition as this has a greater impact.

  • The intense course will be a series of planned, tailored sessions following an initial taster session to assess your child’s needs. The sessions will be more frequent for greater impact on your child’s progress.

  • Most sessions are after school. But if your child is home schooled, daytime appointments can be arranged, and this can help contribute to and support your child’s successful return to school. Some intense courses may be planned during school holidays as well as during term time.

  • It would be useful to know any topics or texts your child is focusing on in school. Any feedback or guidance from your child’s class teacher can also provide a helpful starting point. Examples of your child’s writing from school are incredibly useful. For pupils preparing for GCSE’s, it’s helpful to know set texts and exam boards.

  • Each session will be planned in advance, so payment needs to be made at least a day in advance of each session to secure the booking. The Teaching Patch will invoice you ahead of your child’s lesson.
